Memorial Presbyterian Church
Details:
-the angel of the sides extending out from the building
-the design of the arches and the texture and shape that takes place above it
-the shape of the arch with the circle and details within it along with the door and all of the details and textures
-archway shapes + details/ textures above them
With this building I wanted to focus in on the side columns along with the cross and the shadows that are seen cased throughout the whole property. While also keeping a close look at all the fine details, now that will be reflexed within the sculpture. But also keeping in mind the different textures and structure overall, keeping your eye looking all over the building.
History:
One of the oldest Presbyterian churches in the U.S., being built by Henry Flagler in memory of his daughter, Jenny Louise Benedict. This was flagler's final resting place, alongside his family, in a mausoleum at the rear of the sanctuary. Known for its grand copper dome and detailed terracotta.
Lightner Museum
Details:
-the overall shape/ structure of the outside of the building
-the shape of the archways along with the the top of them creating a bridge way within the building
-the small windows with in the archways along with the details underneath the roof
-shape and line work at the top of the tower + the look of the small rectangle windows
History:
A museum of art, antiques, and curiosities housed in the former Hotel Alcazar, built in 1888 by railroad magnate Henry Flagler. This building being designed as a Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture and one hosted many wealthy guest during the gilded age. Later being changed into a museum in 1984 with a collection of fine and decorative art.
Casa Monica Hotel
Details:
-the overall shape of the roof while having a "normal" roof it also as detailed square shaped top
-the shapes/ fine details underneath the window
-the little/ big patios coming out from the sides of the building
-the details underneath the window
History:
A historic landmark that embodies the city's rich architectural and cultural heritage. Opening in 1888 by Franklin W. Smith, an amateur architect, focus on the spanish baroque style along with a moorish revival. Later being taken over by Henry Flagler that same year, being renamed the Cordova Hotel. In 1962 it was acquired by St. John County and repurposed as the country courthouse, officially opening in 1968. Later purchased by Richard Kessler, who hoped to restore it to a hotel. Then in 1999 it fully reopened as the Casa Monica Hotel.
The Governor's House Cultural Center and Museum
Details:
-the numerous doors along with the extended covered outdoor space
-the small but detailed shaped balconies
-the archway along with the detail and shapes above and surrounding it
History:
A historical building that once served as the home and office for colonial governors. Fully built in the 1700s, being used by the Spanish, British, and American governments. Now today it serves as a museum that shares the city's long and rich history.
